WORKSHOPS


TUESDAY 12th FEBRUARY 2013  -  7pm - 9.30pm 

This course will be two and a half hours long and will be focusing on using social media as a way of marketing your business/ product/ service. Talking about the four main social networking platforms and discussing the ones that will really work for you and how best to use them to your advantage. Discussing websites: 'How to turn people away' and 'How to keep them coming back' (basic do's and don'ts). I shall be focusing on twitter as a free tool that, if used correctly, can achieve the same results as a brochure. Learn useful tips and twitter etiquette, both to help you gain quality followers and potential customers/work. 
You may want to bring paper and pen, but info handouts will be available on the day.

MONDAY 18th FEBRUARY 201  -  9.30 am - 3.30pm

This workshop will be a hands-on look at blogs and how they work. How to update, maintain and link so that it flies up the google pages and you get noticed. You are welcome to bring along a laptop on the day (though this is not essential) or you can bring a pad and pen for taking notes. Handouts will also be available on the day. We will have a large wall screen for demonstrations, so taking notes on paper will be just as fruitful.

Workshop cost: £90.00 (plus vat). Price includes tea, coffee, water and a light lunch.

Uses of a blog

Not many people realise that a blog can be just as good as a website, only they are much cheaper to run (in fact, they are free to run). The beauty of a blog is that it is easy to keep updated and make changes yourself. In some cases blogs can be used as a website. An external blog can also be used to draw traffic to your main website.  Blogs can also be used by artist's and students as an online portfolio to showcase their work and commissions.

blog {taken from the term: web log} is a discussion or informational site published on the world wide web and consisting of discrete entries {also known as posts} typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first).

This workshop will be a hands-on day. You are encouraged to bring in samples of your branding and any new ideas you may have for future possibilities. We will also be looking at different styles of branding and how they do or don't work. It may be that you already have a great logo, but are presenting it in a way so as to get overlooked. At the end of the day you should be much clearer on your brand image and how to present yourself.

Branding

It is not often, when running a business or working for yourself, that you have the time to step back and look at how you come across to the outside world. This workshop will be looking at how others see you and looking at ways you can make sure your visual branding is strong enough to compete with other online competition. What are you offering? Are you marketing to the right people? The way people buy, select services, etc. has changed and therefore you need to make sure your online presence will stand out in a crowd.

Definition of Brand
Brand is the "name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's good or service as distinct from those of other sellers. Initially, Branding was adopted to differentiate one person's cattle from another's by means of a distinctive symbol burned into the animal's skin with a hot iron stamp, and was subsequently used in business, marketing and advertising. A modern example of a brand is Coca Cola which belongs to the Coca-Cola Company. A brand is the most valuable fixed asset of a Corporation.
